GEM EVENT 2012
Our event will be at a Hotel in Chelsea, MI. which is about 14 miles West of Ann Arbor. Our traditional Ann Arbor Hotel where previous events have been held has all of a sudden become “non dog friendly”. The new Hotel is small, about 86 rooms. There is a really nice conference center in a separate building right behind the Hotel where we will have our presentations, meals, foster dogs, and auctions, and we’ll have a large 4,000 sq. ft. tent for vending, right outside between the 2 buildings. They are all about 20 steps from one another. We’re excited and think this may be our best Event yet.
Below is the schedule of Events/ Speakers for the weekend.
Saturday, May 19: 1:30-3:00 pm
Getting to Know Your Greyhound: Positive Training Techniques
Beth Duman, Earth Voices, LLC
Sarah Grimm, Think Pawsitive Dog Training, LLC
Terry Jacobus, Pawzitively Positive, LLC
Positive training is based on the simple premise that behaviors that are rewarded will increase. Positive training is about more than teaching your dog basic obedience; it helps to establish and maintain a connection that increases trust and therefore creates a stronger bond between dog and owner. Join three of the area’s experienced and sought after trainers to understand what makes your dog anxious, how to calm her, and some important things to teach your dog once he is relaxed and ready to learn. Through demonstrations, hands on exercises, and question and answer, Beth Duman, Sarah Grimm, and Terry Jacobus will share knowledge and techniques that you can use long after the session ends. You are sure to learn something new even if you and your greyhound have participated in other training together. Beth, Sarah, and Terry are members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, which promotes the use of positive training methods and encourages the ongoing education of dog trainers. At the end of the session, there will be drawings for a free in-home training session with Terry, Sarah, or Beth and for copies of Beth’s book The Evolution of Charlie Darwin: Partner with your Dog Using Positive Training. Beth will also be available to sign copies of her book after the session.
